A Consumer Reports Survey shows that most people who use weight loss supplements aren’t aware of how potentially unsafe or ineffective they are. Of those that tried supplements to lose weight, very few met their goal. This echos our experience as dieticians and personal trainers in St. Louis.

Of 3,000 Americans, researchers report that most consumers are confused about how supplements make it to the market, what agency regulates them, and aren’t fully aware of how save or effective they are.

If you want to lose weight, be sure to add getting enough sleep to your weight loss program in St. Louis, according to several experts nationwide.

Significant scientific evidence reveals that a critical component to weight control is avoiding sleep deprivation. “There is no doubt that insufficient sleep promotes hunger and appetite, which can cause excessive food intake resulting in weight gain,” according to Eve Van Cauter, director of the Sleep, Metabolism and Health Center at the University of Chicago. People who lift weights accumulate less belly fat over the years than those who spend the same amount of time doing aerobic exercise like running, jogging, spin classes, etc. according to a new Harvard study published in the Journal of Obesity. The 12 year study followed the habits of 10,500 men and followed their physical activity, waist circumference and weight. Excess belly fat is of particular concern because of its link to cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and other conditions.
